East Lancashire Railway Type 4 & 5 Diesel Day (09/01/10): Part 2

Part 2 of 2 videos filmed on 09/01/10.

On a bitterly cold Saturday 9th January, the East Lancashire Railway held it's first diesel day of 2010. The theme on this occasion was Type 4 and 5 locos.

BR Class 40 diesel 40145, Class 47 D1501 (47402 recently repainted in two-tone green), plus BR Class 55 Deltics 55022 Royal Scots Grey and D9016 (55016)

Gordon Highlander. The latter deltic had been purchased and moved to Bury from Barrow Hill a few days earlier, and made a swift, successful debut at it's new

home.

A type 3 interloper was also out and about; ex EWS 37418 Pectinidae was substituting for Class 50 diesel 50015 Valiant, on train heating and assistance.

In Part 2, we see D9016 Gordon Highlander at Rawtenstall, having completed a successful run up the line from Bury. D9016 runs round her train, watched on by

Class 47 D1501. At the same station later on, 40145 runs round ready for the run back to Bury. We join 40145 (in company with 37418 Pectinidae) for a

hellfire trip past Irwell Vale, Ramsbottom and Summerseat. Back at Bury Bolton Street, 40145 comes off to be replaced by 55022 Royal Scots Grey, where the

latter is seen running round at Heywood. We conclude with the highlight of the day - a double headed deltic run. D9016 Gordon Highlander leads 55022 Royal

Scots Grey out of Bury Bolton Street, while 37418 comes along for the ride.
