The Spokane, Portland & Seattle 700 is a Northern type E1 class 4-8-4 steam locomotive. It is maintained by the The Pacific Railroad Preservation Association. It is one of three steam engines that live at the Brooklyn Roundhouse in Portland, Oregon. The Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation is now looking for a new home for these engines - since the Union Pacific has other plans for the space. I took this video at the oopening of the Spring Water Corridor between OMSI (the oregon Museum of Science and Industry) and Oaks Park in June 2003. I had a big Sony PD 250 camera from PCM down on the ground about 5 feet from the tracks. It was a fun experience as the train roared by! Coyoteco

This 1940-built streamline steam locomotive is oil-fueled since 1956 and was used as a steam locomotive monument in Bebra/Germany after the locomotive has been withdrawn. The steam engine has a nice sound, since it has three cylinders. This video is a montage of a few short videos I took with my camera from the Ötscherland Express, a narrow gauge railway running between Kienberg-Gaming and Lunz am See in the Austrian state of Niederösterreich. The red roofed complex you see in the third section is the Kartause Mariathron, a 14th century monastery which has been home to Franciscan University of Steubenville's Austria program since the early 1990's. I lived there for the fall semester in 2004, and these videos were taken on October 2 of that year. The Kartause has not been an active monastery since the 1700's.

This goes to show that a little engine can make a lot of noise! It is an ALCO built B-4 0-6-0 switch engine, built in August 1920, equipped with power reverse, Walschaert valve motion, piston valves, superheaters, and a 5000 gallon tender. It has two whistles, the larger one is a 6 chime and the smaller one is a 3 chime. The locomotive weighs 150000 pounds, and it has a tractive effort of 31200 pounds. It was built to operate at a pressure of 180 pounds per square inch and it continues to operate at that pressure today. WMSTR acquired the engine and modified it slightly; the superheaters were removed, and the footboard on the front was replaced with a boilertube "cow catcher". It also got a...
